Imagine coming home after a stressful day, changing into comfortable clothes, shutting down your cell phone and turning on a beautiful lamp with a soft warm light. Next you pour yourself a glass of a red wine and get some soft jazz music going. This is the mood we aimed to achieve when designing this lampshade.

Magic of soft lighting

Lighting can create a magical ambiance. Lighting alone can put us in a relaxation mode washing away all the worries of the day. Soft dim light is perfect for romantic evenings be it watching a movie, cuddling and chit chatting with your loved ones or playing a guitar.

Vintage ikat print fabric

The fabric we used for this drum lampshade is vintage ikat print fabric. While 99% of ikat fabrics we sell are handloom woven we occasionally feature some vintage pieces because they have history. This specific fabric was purchased at a flea market in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The fabric production dates are circa 1970-1980 Soviet Central Asia (most likely Uzbekistan, could also be Tajikistan). During the Soviet days handloom ikat weaving was ceased because the hand weaving is very slow process, which yields little output compared to industrial mass production. This is why traditional ikat patterns were printed in large state owned factories. This ikat print fabric is from those days.

We used pressure sensitive styrene

Pressure sensitive styrene (the backing which also diffuses the light) was ordered in the USA from www.lampshade.com, a great place for anything related to lamp making. This is a proper technical grade styrene for lighting applications.

Metal wires for US base lamps

This lampshade is to be used with US lamp base. We don't have a US lamp base, hence, demonstrating this lampshade on a refurbished Viennese chair - please pardon our appearance.

This is a sample ikat drum lampshade
The fabric is perfect, however, since this is our first sample lampshade there are some minor flaws in making it. Please see detailed photos. All sales of sample products are final.

Add something else to your order

This package will be traveling a long way and the inside of the lampshade will be empty. Fill in that space with some ikat pillow covers to add coziness and warmth to your home.

Shipping

We ship using registered air mail which has a tracking number. In your countries the shipping will be handled by a state postal service. In case of the USA, for example, it is USPS. If you would like to have your order shipped with a private carrier (Aramex, DHL or Fedex, please Contact Us).
