This red table runner may be the only table decor you will need for Christmas holidays. The colors and a spirit of this hand embroidered suzani sing "Jingle bells"!
This item will pair well with your holiday china or even simpler dishes. In the photos you can see that we played with different plates and bowls. All of them worked beautifully with this festive red suzani.
Base fabric: 100% silk
Embroidery threads: silk
The primary use of a suzani was within the yurt (a nomadic tent), as a protective wrapping for belongings. They were also used as prayer mats, as bed sheets and for seating cushions. Furniture was very rarely found in yurts, because furniture is an inconvenience for a nomadic lifestyle.
Suzanis were traditionally made by brides as part of a dowry. Just as soon as a girl could hold a needle she learnt to embroider. As she grew, with help of female members of her family, she embroidered various textiles as part of her dowry. These were usually bedcovers, wallhangings, teapot covers, etc. On a wedding these works of art were presented to a groom and his family. These embroidered pieces represented a binding of two families, and were adorned with symbols of luck, health, long life and fertility.
Professional dry clean only.
